We recently had one of our Midwest interns head over to check out the skateboard action at 3rd lair’s Southern Slaughter event in Minnesota.  3rd Lair has done a great job over the years holding a ton of events including the King of Groms for young skaters (groms, termites).  Congrats to our buddy Yasha who took 2nd place.  Yasha is a level 3 Eco Tribe skater on Hookit.com for BambooSK8 and skated our OWL&Cat deck.

Standup for Skateparks 2011 Tony Hawk charity event

Sunday, October 2nd, 2011

BambooSk8 was proud to help out for the 4th straight year by donating goods and $ donation to the Standup for Skateparks charity event in Beverly Hills at billionaire Ron Burkle’s green acres estate.  I know, you are all asking – who the hell is Ron Burkle?  If you ever shopped at Ralph’s food stores, then there’s one connection.  How about owning a piece of the Pittsburgh Penguins or owning 20% of Barnes and Noble; there’s more!  Anyhow, lucky for Tony Hawk that Ron provides his humble abode to let Tony invite 850 guests at a price of $400 donation each to mingle with celebrities (if you are lucky or brave) like actor Mark Wahlberg or mega producer Jon Favreau or UFC champion Chuck Lidell or rockstar Perry Farrel of Janes Addiction, watch some live music by the Black Keys (yet, literally 20 feet in front of you on a tiny little stage), watch some amazing skating on the vert ramp (amazing that they are allowed to bring the massive ramp and tear up Ron’s yard) with Shaun White, Tony Hawk, Mitchie Brusco, Bucky Lasek, as well as bmx freestyle by Matt Hoffman, get a ton of free shit from a variety of vendors (t-mobile, art of board, dub, nixon, birdhouse, pinks, wahoo’s, best buy, etc.), chat with pro skaters like Mike Vallely, Jamie Thomas, Kevin Stab, etc., and a ton more….  The live auctions this year were off the hook with autographed guitars by Pearl Jam, Taylor Swift, Rancid, Janes Addiction and the coolest one that Geoff bid on and won = the 1950′s Fender Telecaster toured with and autographed by all members of Green Day.  Other auction items included a tricked out Ford Explorer that went for over $40k, a customized triumph motorcycle by Roland Sands that went for $30k, a ton of autographed pro skateboards (paul rodriguez, nyjay houston, ryan scheckler and shaun white) completely framed by sk8ology, as well as the opportunity to get your own pro skateboard made by Tony Hawk’s team for $250.  Our BambooSK8 skate board autographed by the band CHERRI BOMB on Hollywood Records went for $70 the last bid we saw, but hopefully more.  Needless to say, despite the down economy, things were looking up for charity this year as people reached deep into their pockets.  We can all feel good about helping to get skateparks built in low income, at-risk neighborhoods throughout this great country of ours.  The foundation has helped 405 parks get build already in 49 states; Connecticut is the only one remaining.

Contact’s Name: Adrian Raul

Location: Hill City, South Dakota

What size deck? 8.0

What style of skater are you (street, vert, pool, freestyle)? Street

How much do you weigh? 155lbs

How was the POP in comparison to other decks? In my opinion, I thought the pop was alot better than most decks i tried… You could definitely tell the difference.

Did the POP help you get higher air for your tricks? Yeah for sure. my tricks all and all are bigger

How was the razer tail? Well I noticed that it did’nt get as bad as fast as most decks.. which was really good cause it keeps your tricks popin good…

Did you experience any pressure cracks? after a long while. But it held up really good.

How long did the deck last? THis deck lasted me a long time apposed form maple decks. but my favorite part is that it felt like a new deck the whole time! it did’nt get weakened and flimsy quite as fast.

How was the performance overall? All and all i was really impressed with the performance of the deck.. It stayed stiff, feeling like a new deck, the for a long time. The pop on the deck took some getting used to, but once i got it down it was killer. Definitely my new favorite deck. The flip was really good. It wasn’t to much nor was it not enough, it was perfect! I was completely satisfied with the perfomance of this deck overall.

Would you give a thumbs up to these decks? If not, Why?  Dude, I’d give two!

Will you be purchasing another BambooSK8 deck? Ohh yeah for sure for sure.

Oceanside Police Department arrests bamboo skateboarder – “skateboarding is a crime”

Wednesday, August 4th, 2010

Police confiscation paper 218x300 Oceanside Police Department arrests bamboo skateboarder skateboarding is a crime

Police Confiscation Papers

On Sunday morning, around 12:15am, one of our employees was skating through Oceanside minding his own business when a cop stopped him for no reason.  When asked if he had been drinking, he said “yes”, although he had only had a few drinks.  At that point the cop became a total jerk, despite our buddy being only a few blocks from his house.  He was then arrested and held for the night until we could pick him up around 1pm; 12 hours later.  I guess “SKATEBOARDING IS A CRIME” in Oceanside.  What’s really funny is that the cop wrote “skateboard – bamboo”.  AWESOME!

Check out the POP in these skateboards!! Highest ollie – could it be you?

New inventory of decks – coming end of June

Sunday, June 6th, 2010

We are expecting our new batch of bamboo skateboard decks to be ready around June 30th. We will have tons of stock on 7.5, 7.75, 8, 8.25 and 8.5″ decks, as well as our brand new locker decks. Also, we will have brand new bamboosk8 high-quality wheels made with corn. Yes, it’s an eco revolution as we now displace some of the traditional urethane!  Soy wheels –> Corn wheels!  We’ll be using Randall Trucks on our longboards – can’t get any better than that!!!  New eco-friendly t-shirts in a multitude of designs are also being developed.  We apologize for running low on inventory this month – sales are booming beyond what we predicted; thank you to all who have purchased and continue to purchase.  We can’t do this without you!!

positive feedback about the quality of our skateboards

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

Every day, we receive feedback from fans on our bamboo skateboard decks who submit their feedback via our online dealer feedback form: http://www.bamboosk8.com/dealers/dealers-feedback.php

Here’s an example from 4/24:

What style and level of skater skated the deck? Street skater and intermediate

How was the POP? The pop was excellent! I popped my highest ollie on the Bamboo deck.

How was the razer tail? The tail has not shedded a layer yet.

How long did the deck  last? I am currently skating the same deck after 3 weeks.

How was the performance  overall? Overall the deck is great and I am performing tricks I could barely land on a maple deck.

Would you give a thumbs  up to these decks? If not, Why? Yes!

Here’s another example from 4/23:

What style and level of skater skated the deck? Well, I’m a decent street skater, and a pretty tough ramp skater. I skate mostly stairs and ledges, steering away from rails.

How was the POP? The pop was…well…weird. It’s hard to explain. Let’s just say, Bamboo gives POP a whole new meaning. I don’t think I’ll ever go back to maple…

How was the razer tail? The razor tail was not bad at all. I broke my bamboo deck before I could get too bad of razor tail.

How long did the deck  last? Actually, the deck itself outlasted my spitfire classics…so as you can imagine, these boards stand the test of shred

How was the performance  overall? I’m an avid skater, and you can’t really tell, being that it was a bamboosk8 blank (you couldn’t see the scratch marks on the bottom). The only wear you could see were some scuff marks and a little razor tail. I usually get major razor tail, scratched up graphic, and chipped everywhere…but with bamboo, everything is peaceful.

Would you give a thumbs  up to these decks? If not, Why? I want you to imagine the episode of “MINUTE TO WIN IT”, where the guy had to stack three golf balls on top of each other…Remember how many divits and dimples the golf balls had? That many thumbs up. =]
