Retro Meets Modern

Oceanside, CA – February 15, 2013: Bamboo Skateboards, world leader in eco-friendly, socially conscious skateboards is excited to release some new products in preparation for strong forecasted spring sales.

Three new short-deck graphics are being added to current lineup of 10 graphic decks: Diamond, Slash and Circle.  Visual Director Jacquelyn Purvis stated, “My intention was for these simplistic logo designs of the BS series to add a bold variety of color and style to our already existing Sutsu and Charity deck series.”

Next is the release of the Mini Retro decks, which are 6” x 22.5” and are available in neon blue and green with a classic-feel Bamboo Skateboards logo.  The completes feature 3” trucks, Abec 7 bearings, and 62mm wheels.  These smaller decks add to the mix of bamboo skateboards, which include 7.5”, 7.75”, 8”, 8.25”, 8.25” and a 10” pool deck.   The Mini Retro deck was inspired by combining the modern trend of bold and bright neon colors with the classic style of the old school boards of the 60′s and 70′s.”

The company looks forward to launching a new line of environmentally friendly t-shirts and lightweight sweatshirts featuring all new designs for the spring 2013.

About Bamboo Skateboards:

Bamboo skateboards are manufactured from managed bamboo forests and help reduce the environmental impact against traditional maple manufactured skateboards, which often lead to maple deforestation.  The boards are known for their strength, lightness and amazing POP, which is the #1 feature.  The company has built into its corporate DNA a “100 decks for 1” program, in which, every 100 decks sold earns 1 free skateboard to an at-risk youth.  This is coupled with the fact that most decks are directly tied to benefit charities and non profits such as World Wildlife Fund, Red Cross, Grind For Life, Standup for Skateparks, Musicares, Surfrider Foundation, etc.  For more information visit: www.bamboo-skateboards.com

Venice Beach new skate park – 10/3/9

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

New venice beach skate park was happening on Saturday with tons of skaters and fans coming out to see a lot of the old school pros tear up the bowl.  It was so crowded, which is often the case as every local kid wants to be a part of the experience and there just isn’t enough room.  Reality is, this thing is 16,000 sq. foot + and it is right on the beach, which is so rad to skate and look at the ocean.  I was expecting a big hoopla of tents and more pro skaters but it was really low key for the most part – taking all the “commercialism” out of it and just focusing on the skating.

Officially named the Dennis “Polar Bear” Agnew Memorial Skatepark (one of the original Dogtown skaters), the design mimics Dogtown’s world of empty swimming pools and urban landscape that gave rise in the importance of modern skateboarding as a sport and culture.  A big thanks goes out to Jessie Martinez and Geri Lewis and others at the VSA who made it all happen… I know the kids will enjoy this for many years to come!
