We recently had one of our Midwest interns head over to check out the skateboard action at 3rd lair’s Southern Slaughter event in Minnesota.  3rd Lair has done a great job over the years holding a ton of events including the King of Groms for young skaters (groms, termites).  Congrats to our buddy Yasha who took 2nd place.  Yasha is a level 3 Eco Tribe skater on Hookit.com for BambooSK8 and skated our OWL&Cat deck.

We all know Rome wasn’t built overnight. The same goes for BambooSK8. For the past few years, we’ve devoted our attention to producing the best possible bamboo skateboard on the market that is up to the standard of the average pro skateboard out there. Reality is – if it isn’t, then why even bother trying to compete in the market. Nonetheless, you have to start somewhere…and for us, that start was a few years ago. It was our intent to change the market from 100% maple to 100% bamboo skateboards; a lofty goal. While the 100%’s were pretty awesome at one time, in terms of the strength and durability, they were too flat for the average consumer who needed a deeper concave. Unfortunately, for as cool as bamboo is as a natural resource, it does have its limitations in terms of how far you can bend it. The result of too much bending is a surface crack at the point of flux running left to right. The same holds true for maple though when bending it too far as well. It’s just inherent in natural resources being pushed beyond their natural limits. Anyhow, so that left us over time working on other mixes, different glues, different pressing techniques, different press times, etc. Fast forward to 2011 and here we are today with a deck that is 70% bamboo by content. That’s 70% more than the 100% maple, which is a step in the right direction. This deck shape with the concave pleases a significant portion of the skaters who skate the decks…that’s why we have so many repeat customers. We don’t claim that it will please everyone as a deck purchase is a personal choice based on your style of skating and preferences (concave, wheelbase, shape, etc.). We hope that for you who are reading this can see that our best intentions are towards the environment and taking small steps in the right direction; we’ve only got 1 planet folks – let’s take care of it and each other! I will tell you my son has been skating for 5 years and we have been using element and girl boards cause they seemed to last the longest. Then we tried your boards. The bamboo boards out last these major brands and are half the price. All his friends have your boards now also. No problems with the regular boards very strong, they skate at kona skate park and are very aggresive, awsome boards. I don’t know what its gonna take to get your boards known like element or girl or dgk, but I belive you hjave a superior product for half the price, your company should take off. Clean Vibes Trading Post, is a 501(c)3 organization that promotes recycling at large outdoor events throughout the United States. The Clean Vibes Trading Post rewards individuals who collect recyclable materials during the events with products such as skateboards from BambooSK8.

Bonnaroo attracts a national audience of up to 80,000 attendees daily and is one of the largest music festivals in the United States. As the only North American festival to receive a high-ranking Greener Festival award for three consecutive years, Bonnaroo is also recognized as an event that is committed to promoting environmental responsibility.

This is the fourth year the Clean Vibes Trading Post will be operating at Bonnaroo and several other events across the country. The cans and bottles which individuals collect become a currency of sort, and the more recycling gathered, the more valuable items they can “purchase.”  Providing immediate rewards enables us to directly engage people in the clean up process, educate them about the importance of recycling, and ensures that we divert as much material as possible from the landfill.

2011 lineup:

June 7^th was “Go Green Family Night” at Lakeview Elementary School in Lakeside California.  It was an educational night that guided family and students on ways to decrease their carbon footprint.  Everything from electric cars, to solar power energy, and of course bamboo skateboards.  The kids  loved the bamboo skateboards and were thrilled about  removable tattoos.  The parents on the other hand we’re excited to take home some bamboosk8 coasters.  Thanks to Kris Childs for putting on a great event.  Until next year…

Saturday was El Camino H.S. Skate Club’s last contest of the year.  It took place at YMCA Skatepark in Encinitas on a perfectly sunny day.  The group was led by Isabelle Fried (Gravity Skateboard Team Rider).  About a dozen or so of the clubs skaters made it out to a jam session format.  Everyone was having a great time, and the energy was so positive.  Taking 1st place in the contest was Club President and graduating senior, Joe.  Congrats!!!

Did the POP help you get higher air for your tricks? yes it did, as a matter of fact its hard to skate any other deck other than a bamboo deck

How was the razer tail? its ok..not great, might want to make it a little thicker

Did you experience any pressure cracks? i do have cracks in it, the bamboo is slowly peeling off the board

How long did the deck last? around a year, year and a half

How was the performance overall? great, my board was 10x lighter then any of my friends boards who bought maple boards
