We are excited to set up a booth on Monday, April 22nd at OAKLEY’s main office. We’ll be joining a few other great brands such as ReRip, Green Truck, Solid Recycled Surf Company, to show off our products to the 500+ Oakley employees and educate them on what we do towards sustainability with our bamboo skateboards. A variety of prize packs will be available including 5 bamboo skateboards, 2 solid surfboards, 1 model train from metrolink, Oakley recycled surf shorts, and much more. Oakley is one of those brands that has stood the test of time and has our utmost respect.
We are stoked to be on NBC LA news with our partners at ROOZT.com among other great brands that give back to at-risk youth, foster a buy 1 get 1, give to charity, etc. Many of these companies have values of humanitarian, philanthropic or eco-friendly.
For those who saw us on the NBC TODAY show on Friday, November 23rd, with hosts Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda, you can purchase the $65 skateboard completes with free shipping at: http://www.roozt.com/index.php?vID=Bamboo-Skateboards
These are specially discounted for the holidays to help you all save some money this Christmas.
We have spent the past 2 days filming and doing some amazing photography in preparation for a series of inspirational videos we are making across a variety of crowd sourcing platforms to raise some additional funding. While 5 years ago we were those guys in the garage with a pipe dream, we are now an established brand. Our products are found online and in stores internationally. But, in order to reach a larger audience and get our message heard, we need to infuse some additional investments into our company so we can invest in some large scale advertising, starting in the major skateboarding publications. We were excited to have a variety of companies come out and be filmed talking up our company. Thanks to Roozt.com, i ride i recycle, Redination, Eqo Optics, etc. The funnest part was having all the out-takes with our panda Boodha stepping in and screwing with people; be prepared to laugh! We hope you are as excited as we are about the future of Bamboo Skateboards!

BambooSK8 team ready to destroy the competition (not the forest) at Tampa Am
Oceanside, December 1st, 2011: BambooSK8 couldn’t be more excited for its team riders, Matt Cartledge and Ryan Strader to be competing this weekend against 200 of the best amateur skateboarders in the world at the Tampa Am in Tampa, Florida.
When team manager Nate Wooldridge was asked why it is so important for Ryan and Matt to be at the Tampa Am representing BambooSK8, he answered, “Because it is simply the biggest amateur competition of the year and anybody that is important in the industry is going to be there.” No doubt that BambooSK8 is banking on this by sending their 2 best skaters who are a part of a newly developed team for 2012. It is the company’s goal that strong results in this competition will be the catalyst to bringing the brand to the forefront of the skateboard industry as more skaters will recognize the extra POP and the incredible strength that bamboo skate decks provide for their skaters and fans of the eco-minded brand.
Matt and Ryan who have similar styles are known for being down to skate any terrain whether it is ledges, manual pads, big gaps, handrails, weird obstacles, you name it and they will both skate it. Recently Ryan just landed a frontside 270 to switch frontslide boardslive shuv; a monster of a trick. Matt’s style has been compared to Sierra Fellers while Ryan’s has been compared to Chris Roberts. Ryan Strader is from Austin, Texas and, in addition to BambooSK8, is sponsored by Capital Skate Park, DVS, Good Life wheels, The Shop in Oak Cliff, Silver Trucks, FKD Bearings. The 18-year-old Matt Cartledge is also sponsored by Bunger Sayville Skate Shop, and is from Wantagh, New York.
The Tampa Am is hosted at the Skate Park of Tampa, also known as SPoT. The park has gained recognition over the years from hosting Pro and Amateur events that have featured riders such as Bob Burnquist, Bucky Lasek, and Danny Way. The Skate Park of Tampa has been open since 1993 and has hosted the Tampa Am annually since 1994. This year’s event starts at 9:00 am Thursday, December 1st and goes until 9:00pm on Sunday, December 4th. The Skate Park of Tampa is located at 4215 East Columbus Drive in Tampa, FL.

About BambooSK8:
BambooSK8 is an ecologically-based skateboard brand and manufacturer of high quality skateboards made from sustainable bamboo from managed forests. They are social entrepreneurs who believe that giving back to their communities is as equally important as profits. They passionately hope to inspire others to take actionable steps towards preserving our natural environment.
We are sorry to say that we have sold out of 8.25″ and 8.5″ bamboo blank decks and will likely not produce any new ones until around January/February 2012. We recommend trying out our 8″ decks, which have a tighter wheelbase and therefore seem to be good to the average skater who normally skates the larger 8.25″ size.
Oceanside, California (PR Buzz) October 7th, 2011: BambooSK8, a leading developer of eco-friendly bamboo skateboard decks, will be an impressionable exhibitor at the Sacred Craft surfboard expo at the Del Mar fairgrounds October 8-9th. The revolutionary companies bamboo longboards and skateboards are proof that progress is being made in the skate industry towards more eco-conscious business practices. “The time is now to start making incremental changes in our industry and lead a new generation of responsible consumers,” say’s Geoff Koboldt, President of BambooSK8.
BambooSK8 will maintain an exciting booth in the “skate zone”, a section that will feature ramps, a longboarding slalom course, and tarp surfing. Along with surfboard shapers, designers, and manufacturers they will be spreading the word about how the surf and skate communities are becoming more eco-conscious and changing the paradigm. They will also be showcasing a range of longboards from the 31.5” locker cruizers to the 42” double-kick, as well as the new “Ride for Earth” skateboard deck, which plants a tree in Europe for every deck sold. Forward-thinking products such as their wheels, made from 20% corn; which helps to displace the petroleum in traditional urethane wheel production, will also be seen on their completes.
Why skateboards at a surf expo? Mark Olson, Operations Manager, at BambooSK8 explains, “Surf brands, such as Lost, are expanding into the skateboard market which is why one of the most impactful surf events, Sacred Craft Expo, has expanded this year into having a skate zone. With us being a local and growing manufacturer of skateboards with a longboard division it is important to support our industry as it grows and progresses.” BambooSK8, like the surfboard manufacturers that will be present, is focused on being at the forefront of innovation and eco-friendly practices.
The Sacred Craft surfboard expo will feature over 150 booths, making it the largest consumer surfboard expo ever produced. Another highlight will be during the Sustainable Craft Showcase, an area that is dedicated to the manufacture of surfboards using more environmentally friendly materials. Surfboard designer and futurist Carl Ekstrom will be honored at the event during the “Tribute to the Masters Shape-off” where six shapers chosen by Ekstrom compete to shape the best surfboard based on an original Ekstrom design. The event, which includes a lot of music, food, surfboard shaping and giveaways starts on Saturday at 10am and ends at 6pm while on Sunday it starts at 10am but only goes until 4pm. Follow BambooSK8 on twitter @bamboosk8 or Facebook @bamboosk8 for exciting opportunities to win special prizes at this monumental event – www.sacredcraftexpo.com
BambooSk8 was proud to help out for the 4th straight year by donating goods and $ donation to the Standup for Skateparks charity event in Beverly Hills at billionaire Ron Burkle’s green acres estate. I know, you are all asking – who the hell is Ron Burkle? If you ever shopped at Ralph’s food stores, then there’s one connection. How about owning a piece of the Pittsburgh Penguins or owning 20% of Barnes and Noble; there’s more! Anyhow, lucky for Tony Hawk that Ron provides his humble abode to let Tony invite 850 guests at a price of $400 donation each to mingle with celebrities (if you are lucky or brave) like actor Mark Wahlberg or mega producer Jon Favreau or UFC champion Chuck Lidell or rockstar Perry Farrel of Janes Addiction, watch some live music by the Black Keys (yet, literally 20 feet in front of you on a tiny little stage), watch some amazing skating on the vert ramp (amazing that they are allowed to bring the massive ramp and tear up Ron’s yard) with Shaun White, Tony Hawk, Mitchie Brusco, Bucky Lasek, as well as bmx freestyle by Matt Hoffman, get a ton of free shit from a variety of vendors (t-mobile, art of board, dub, nixon, birdhouse, pinks, wahoo’s, best buy, etc.), chat with pro skaters like Mike Vallely, Jamie Thomas, Kevin Stab, etc., and a ton more…. The live auctions this year were off the hook with autographed guitars by Pearl Jam, Taylor Swift, Rancid, Janes Addiction and the coolest one that Geoff bid on and won = the 1950′s Fender Telecaster toured with and autographed by all members of Green Day. Other auction items included a tricked out Ford Explorer that went for over $40k, a customized triumph motorcycle by Roland Sands that went for $30k, a ton of autographed pro skateboards (paul rodriguez, nyjay houston, ryan scheckler and shaun white) completely framed by sk8ology, as well as the opportunity to get your own pro skateboard made by Tony Hawk’s team for $250. Our BambooSK8 skate board autographed by the band CHERRI BOMB on Hollywood Records went for $70 the last bid we saw, but hopefully more. Needless to say, despite the down economy, things were looking up for charity this year as people reached deep into their pockets. We can all feel good about helping to get skateparks built in low income, at-risk neighborhoods throughout this great country of ours. The foundation has helped 405 parks get build already in 49 states; Connecticut is the only one remaining.
We all know Rome wasn’t built overnight. The same goes for BambooSK8. For the past few years, we’ve devoted our attention to producing the best possible bamboo skateboard on the market that is up to the standard of the average pro skateboard out there. Reality is – if it isn’t, then why even bother trying to compete in the market. Nonetheless, you have to start somewhere…and for us, that start was a few years ago. It was our intent to change the market from 100% maple to 100% bamboo skateboards; a lofty goal. While the 100%’s were pretty awesome at one time, in terms of the strength and durability, they were too flat for the average consumer who needed a deeper concave. Unfortunately, for as cool as bamboo is as a natural resource, it does have its limitations in terms of how far you can bend it. The result of too much bending is a surface crack at the point of flux running left to right. The same holds true for maple though when bending it too far as well. It’s just inherent in natural resources being pushed beyond their natural limits. Anyhow, so that left us over time working on other mixes, different glues, different pressing techniques, different press times, etc. Fast forward to 2011 and here we are today with a deck that is 70% bamboo by content. That’s 70% more than the 100% maple, which is a step in the right direction. This deck shape with the concave pleases a significant portion of the skaters who skate the decks…that’s why we have so many repeat customers. We don’t claim that it will please everyone as a deck purchase is a personal choice based on your style of skating and preferences (concave, wheelbase, shape, etc.). We hope that for you who are reading this can see that our best intentions are towards the environment and taking small steps in the right direction; we’ve only got 1 planet folks – let’s take care of it and each other! For those who choose to skate a bambooSK8 deck, we appreciate you! See fan testimonials at www.bamboosk8.com/fans
We have new bamboo decks in stock – check them out in the shop! We bring you the highest quality, best price decks in the market. Check out our fans page testimonials – www.bamboosk8.com/fans
