ecoframework Eco Framework BambooSK8 and Sustainability

Learn more about BambooSK8: http://www.bamboosk8.com/misc/green.php

Learn more about Eco index:  www.ecoindexbeta.org

The Eco Index uses environmental guidelines, environmental performance indicators, and environmental footprint metrics to assess the impacts within six product life cycle stages: Materials; Packaging; Product Manufacturing and Assembly; Transport and Distribution; Use and Service; and End of Life. A comparative scoring system at the indicator level provides standardized levels of achievement; a data capture tool at the metric level provides a means to collect quantitative data within seven critical “Lenses” (areas of impact): Land Use Intensity, Water, Waste, Biodiversity, Chemistry/Toxics – People, Chemistry/Toxics – Environment, and Energy Use/Greenhouse Gas Emissions. Designed for use by a diverse group of stakeholders from product designers to suppliers, the Eco Index framework is modular, allowing implementation of the tool within the life cycle stages and level of detail appropriate for each company. At present, the Eco Index does not provide a final score or ranking for finished products. However, this may be incorporated as the index undergoes further development. The Eco Index is being built around five guiding principles that separate it from other environmental assessment tools:

  • Collaboration. The Eco Index is the result of thousands of hours of work by more than 100 companies in the outdoor industry. Open-Source Information. The Eco Index is completely open-source and available for use by all companies, reflecting the industry’s belief that true transparency is essential to “move the needle” on sustainability. Transparency. It is critical that all outdoor industry stakeholders are able to view, understand, and provide input into the ongoing development of the Eco Index. Scalability. While the Eco Index is rooted in the outdoor industry, its structure is such that it has the ability to be applied within other industries and sectors.
  • Global Reach: The Outdoor Industry Association has partnered with the European Outdoor Group on the Eco Index initiative to ensure a common worldwide sustainability tool for the outdoor industry.

What style and level of skater skated the deck? I would say i am an advanced skater my style is loose but solid.

How was the POP? I was very surprised by how high the pop was tha board  practically stayed glued to my feet on ollies and my other tricks such as hardflips and half cab flips are exceptionally high.

How was the razer tail? Its not worn down that much yet id say it will last me like two months minimum.

How long did the deck  last? Its been 2 weeks and its still in great shape i skate everyday and i think it will last me like two more months.

How was the performance  overall? I think the board is wonderful so far. Love skating it and i think i have finally keep me from spending so much money after a year.

Would you give a thumbs  up to these decks? If not, Why? i would with out a doubt give a thumbs up i am for sure recommending this board to all my friends. I just wanna tel you guys that you made an amazing board.

What style and level of skater skated the deck? I am a street skater that skates buckly!

How was the POP? The pop was great and even other people at some local skateparks enjoyed it.

How was the razer tail? What? I don’t scratch on manuals!?

How long did the deck  last? I got my board around the end of june and am still riding the same deck.

How was the performance  overall? Overall it is ncredible only problem is it does chip and crack over time.

Would you give a thumbs  up to these decks? If not, Why? I would give it thumbs up all the way! Most boards I get break in like a month or two max Bamboo decks last a good three to four months for me. I couldn’t be happier to ride them.

Super positive email to us today!!

Tuesday, September 14th, 2010

Hey Geoff,

I got my son’s deck in the mail today.  I want to tell you that your vision is suburb.  Shit, I’m 35 and I’m even thinking about buying a deck from you and starting to skate again after 21 years, because I appreciate your mission so much (plus it’s hard to watch all these little 8-14 year olds in front of my house all the time having so much fun on their boards…oh the good ol’ days).  Anyway, I hope you singlehandedly change the entire industry and everyone moves to bamboo.  I also hope in your venture, your company ends up squarely on top, because you pioneered the path.  Put it this way, you have a client for life and I hope your business prospers so much that you no longer have time to sign your own letters and you’ll be so busy these emails will have to go to customerservice@bamboosk8.com (not that I don’t appreciate the personal touch!).  Thank you for what you do, keep manifesting your beliefs and prosperity will be yours.  Kudos!

Sincerely,

Jeremy

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RC638t4HhHY

Inbar did an amazing job producing this inspiring video reviewing all the positive attributes of cultivating sustainable bamboo, helping poverished regions with fair trade and most importantly all the amazing products you can create with bamboo.  The 3 skaters used in the video all were skating our bamboo skateboards and ride for us:  David Kahn, Yasha Meyer and Nick Weber.
