BambooSK8 is offering a rare opportunity for those skaters to be a part of the ECO-TRIBE; a group of skate warriors who want to make a difference in the world by skating on bamboo versus maple.

Skaters can receive discounts up to 50% on bamboo skateboard decks and many other great benefits including environmentally friendly stickers + bamboo t-shirts (coming in 2009).

We dropped off some bamboo decks and bamboo t-shirts on 12/14/8 for the King of Groms prize packs at Skatelab in Simi Valley. Amazing to see some of the best little skaters out there just tearing it up; some travelling as far as the UK. Tons of promo was given out so I don’t think one kid went home empty handed…
I was proud to see some of my former little Termite skaters competing… 9 year old Shane Borland who now rides for Powell got 5th in street and 12 year old Allysha Bergado who rides for H-Street and was the only girl competitor. You can check out both of them in Osiris’s new video “children of the revolution”.
Bamboosk8 looks forward to spreading the bamboo word to future generations of active kids. Check out King of Groms at 3rd Lair - www.3rdlair.com
BambooSK8 crew made the trek over to Huntington Beach for another Action Sports Environmental Coalition event with other vendors - sector 9, volcom, AOSA, etc. This event was ran on solar panels off the biofuel bus that Frank drove down. We were interviewed by the Sundance Channels people who are producing “Big Ideas For a Small Planet”. After a few games of skate and awarding bamboo decks to the winners, we all watched some bmx aerials on the quarter pipe and launch ramp as the local skaters skated the variety of obstacles. The winner of the skate contest was then awarded a bamboo deck and a wide variety of prizes from all the vendors; so he was stoked. Recycle your brain. After the event, we headed down the road to the Quicksilver headquarters for an 80’s flashback - Tony Hawk, Tony Magnusson, Christian Hosoi, Steve Caballero, Bucky Lasek, and many more - all dressed in 80’s gear.

Congrats to Shelby Smith who won 1st place for the year in Northern Californias (CASL) California Amateur Skateboarding League competitions on a 100% bamboo skate board from Bamboosk8. Great job Shelby!!
I attended Tony Hawk’s charity event at Billionaire Ron Burkle’s Beverly Hills estate on Sunday - for a $350 donation. On one front, one is mingling with spoiled little rich kids (tons of them) who say to their mommies, “Oh, mom - it’s only $1000 for that autographed guitar in the auction.” On another front, you realize that it’s these rich families who graciously donate a significant amount of money to help organizations such as this so more power to them. Anyhow, the event was amazing and very well put together… from the valeting of cars to the food/drink, music by Social Distortion, skate jam with Tony and friends, tons of booths with free stuff, hundreds of auctioned items, etc. Overall, it’s pretty amazing what Tony Hawk has been able to achieve in skateboarding and what his organization gives back… It was especially nice to see people donating and bidding on the auction during these tough economical times. Nonetheless, $75k was raised in a matter of minutes by just generous donations - one lady alone who gave $25k. $350×800 in tickets = another $280k. I’m not sure what the auction brought in but there was some pricey tags on items. What’s important here is that the many kids now can have an opportunity to skate/bike with the help of the organization building skateparks. Tony mentioned the next one was TierraSanta and even had some kids come on stage who would directly be inspired. I did my due dilligence by promoting the bamboo skateboards and even made a few pro skaters smile when I asked them when they were going to be skating on bamboo. They sounded excited at the opportunity - now, we just need to get some solid decks in their hands, which we are working on. Bamboo skate decks are the future!!

Bamboosk8 was proud to support the first ever all military skate contest put on by the armed forces skateboarding association by donating some 100% bamboo decks and sending one of our interns over to assist the event. We are very thankful for those that sacrifice for our freedoms we often take for granted. By supporting this event, our intention isn’t to make a political statement in any way… just to say “thank you” for our fundamental freedoms. Peace to the world!!

We would like to thank Michael Moffatt and Todd Nordstrom at Go Jobing for making this wonderful 4 page article happen about our 100% bamboo skateboards, as well as how we as a San Diego company are focused on sustainability both with our product and in our daily lives.
The Wat Pa Maha Chedio Kaew temple has found a way to bottle up Nirvana, literally. The temple, which sits in Thailand’s Sisaket province, roughly 370 miles northeast of Bangkok is made of more than a million recycled glass bottles. True to its nickname, “Wat Lan Kuad” or “Temple of Million Bottles” features glass bottles throughout the premises of the temple, including the crematorium, surrounding shelters, and yes – even the toilets. There’s an estimated 1.5 million recycled bottles built into the temple, and as you might have guessed, they are committed to recycling more. After all, the more bottles they get, the more buildings they are able to construct.

We would like to thank Skate Midwest for reviewing our decks.
Bamboo Skateboards
So we just got two decks sent over from Bamboosk8.com and they’re pretty sick.
Supposedly the pop will last a super long time with these things ( but all the really good skaters out there knows that decks don’t last long anyway ). They are super rigid and feel pretty solid.
The concave isn’t to deep so super techy skaters may find that a little more effort may need to be put in to get those crook to inward heelflips done.
Check em out for sure and plus bamboo is a pretty good renewable resource so you might be being environmentally friendly!

*Please note that this review was done on an older model and a hybrid bamboo deck, not a 100% and not our newest model - Nonetheless, we want to thank Nate for his honest review.
We had an awesome weekend in Lake Forest at Etnies. Our 2 interns David and Taylor arrived Saturday morning around 8am to set up our booth, which contained a bamboo table and chairs, bamboo art piece and 2 racks of decks to display, 2 banners, as well as around 100 decks for promotion. Geoff arrived around 9am after getting lost in Huntington Beach dropping off veneers to a longboard company. Ron arrived around 10 with the remaining promotional items. Anyhow, the weather was a bit cold and when the rain came down a few times, it got pretty darn chilly. Nonetheless, the level of excitement from kids stoked on our product made it all worth it. We had kids willing to break their brand new pro model decks on camera for a chance to exchange it for a 100% bamboo skate deck. At 1 point, we through a deck out into the crowd and it took nearly 2 minutes of a near riot before 1 kid made his mark walking away with the deck and a smile on his face. Many were amazed at how strong the bamboo decks really are. We also had a few kids who wanted to go promote our brand and hand out postcard fliers with a chance to win free decks for a year contest. The actual skate qualification took place on Saturday and it just floors me how many guys cannot land any tricks; and they are pros? Wow! What other sport can you get away with that? Saturday around 8:20, Bad Religion took the stage and rocked it hard. Amazing to think how long they’ve been around and still play that fast. Sunday, Ron and the interns worked the booth and we had another successful day; many more bamboo skate decks promoted.

Earlier this year, we attended the 1st of its kind - the IASC industry summit at Camp Woodward West. The importance of this event was all the top brands and manufacturers in the industry to discuss key issues such as the creation of more skateparks, environmental/sustainability - going green, how to make ASR better, dealer/shop issues, government regulations, and so much more. The initial speaker the first night was Pierre, owner of Sole Technology. The highlight though was a guy from Harley Davidson who helped turn their company around years ago - his presentation was very inspiring and fostered a lot of thinking about the similarities between chartering a Harley Davidson and skating your favorite brand. The 3 day event was largely successful and we enjoyed skating, bowling, and other fun activities, and most importantly networking.

Yesterday, BambooSK8 attended a charity event (in celebration of Internationl Peace Day) that we were invited to be a part of in LA’s Griffith Park. It was hosted by actor Pierce Brosnan and his wife with music by Gavin Rossdale, whose beautiful pregnant wife Gwen Stefanie (No Doubt) was in attendance as well. Anyhow, the event had numerous eco/green companies with booths set up (many kid focused) so it was great to see the momentum of positive change. We were thanked for our contribution of a bamboo deck that was painted on by artist Theo Hetherington, who then silent auctioned them off for the charity event. They also handed out our bamboo postcard fliers – including putting them in the celebrity gift bags; which we felt was great! We were very honored to be a part of this day of peace.
BambooSK8 joined numerous other action sports companies for the 2nd annual Action Sports Environmental Coalition Summit on August 13th in Laguna Beach, CA at a great art studio.
The keynote speaker was actress/activist Darryl Hannah, who said, “forgive me in advance - I’m not much for public speaking” as she read the words verbatim off the paper. Although she had written her speech around 3am that morning, her words cut to the bone of what it means to stand for something in the pursuit of sustainability and were quite inspiring.
ASEC founder Frank Scurra did a great job of pulling everyone together to have a sense of gratitude towards life - our breath, the air around us, the nutrients we put in our bodies, the ecosystems that thrive in perfect unity, etc. Lunch was provided by Chipolte and was excellent. Artwork from Mike Kershnar was displayed around the facility - really great stuff too.
The basic purpose of this event was to bring companies together to share ideas and put together action that will result in each company being more sustainable and ultimately, our industry leading the world in this pursuit. While it makes incredible sense for all of us companies to go in together and purchase let’s say - organic cotton t-shirts so we can all save money on the large volume discount, it is unlikely everyone will want to play ball or coordinate the efforts right now.
It’s expensive to go green for many because they have been doing business for so long down the wrong path - ie. high volume VOC glues in their decks, toxic cotton t-shirts, polluting due to excess shipping, etc. It’s a shame because our industry could be leaders in the eco/green movement of sustainability. I want to believe and trust that others will do their part over the next year. For us, bamboo is the ultimate in sustainability!

We would like to thank everyone who stopped by our booth (#3519) at ASR in San Diego. Despite the large amount of people complaining about how bad business is for them, we found optimism along with a tremendous amount of enthusiasm for our eco-friendly decks. Many people were stoked on our decks and thought they were incredibly beautiful. Also, our entire booth was done in bamboo - fencing, table and chairs, and our larger-than-life 25′ tall bamboo stalk/art piece thanks to Ron. This is what being sustainable is about!! It is also important to thank Frank and the Action Sports Environmental Coalition for allowing us to be featured in the Green room upstairs, the display case upstairs and the dealer/GREEN area downstairs. Please support this wonderful organization!! We gave out a lot of free decks to folks so we thank those that provided the positive feedback to us.
