Hello Everyone! I just wanted to drop in and write on last final post and tell you all thank you for making this internship such a wonderful experience. I was able to learn so much about action sports industry as well as what it means to be a start up company. I enjoyed interacting with each one of you whether it was through email, skype, or phone. It has been a pleasure!

Good luck, have fun and skate safe!

What was your expectation coming into the internship and what brought you to Bamboosk8?  Hrmm… lets see well the Action Sports Industry brought me to Malakye.com and the overall feel of the company brought me to BambooSk8, from skating to socially responsibility they got me. From that point, I scheduled an interview date and now I am a part of the team! My expectations have been met: a laid back working environment where we are expected to take responsibility and take pride in our actions. Working efficiently and effectively is of utmost importance!

What is one obstacle that you have overcome in the internship?
One obstacle that I have had to overcome is that fact that I communicate with the majority of BambooSK8 employees through the internet, not always an easy task. I work in Los Angeles while others reside in the greater San Diego area. But through the use of telephones, email and most importantly Skype I have been able to overcome this and communicate effectively!

Elaborate on where you are heading your goals and the importance of laying down goals and sticking to them.
Currently, my goals are still being established. Now with the help of another intern I have expanded by goals to include a more detailed project that I am very excited to be a part of. Without laying down goals and sticking to them the goal itself will never be accomplished. Therefore, setting realistic goals from the get go is key to success.

What has been the most fun part of the internship?
As a part of the internship program I am encouraged to attend as many events as possible. Although, I have not been able to attend all the events, the ones I have been able to participate in have proved to be the most fun. Representing a company that you are excited about and learning about “the real world” is super fun! We have multiple events in the next couples of weeks and I cannot wait to attend!

Peace, Monica

My personal experience!

Friday, February 13th, 2009

What brought you to bamboosk8? Well, the process began when I came to the realization that corporate America was not the thing for me. What can I say…sitting in a cubical is just not my jam! But, I do want to make good use of my education and combine that with my passion for snowboarding. So I thought to myself, what combines passion, excitement, and business? The Action Sports Industry! From that point forward I began researching various companies looking for internships and part time work. In my search, I came across BambooSk8 and instantly became excited because the company combines skateboarding, environmental sustainability, and practical experience that I can take with me on my journey into the real world.

How is the internship so far?
I have previously been employed as an intern for various corporate firms within the business world and as such I have had the privilege of making copies and running errands. Basically, I felt like I was not reaching my fullest potential and let me tell you it is one of the most unfulfilling experiences I have ever had. As a result it is no surprise that I am stoked to have my own responsibilities here at BambooSk8. There is a great sense of accomplishment when you are able to directly see the results of that work that you have completed. Although at times we all want our hand to be held and told exactly what we need to do I have come to realize we are only going to learn by figuring things out on our own and by making mistakes.

What are you learning? Lets see…I am leaning a lot! Seeing as we are still in the beginner stages as a company I am able to get a feel for what is means to work in various departments. For me this is very important because like so many I still do not know what I want to do with my life. By experiencing the various aspects of starting a new company I hope to find direction and ultimately an area in which I would like to specialize.

What are your goals?
My goals are centered around the Loop’d network and increasing the knowledge and importance of becoming eco friendly in all aspects of life which includes our passions i.e. skating! We are living in an era that is going to see the direct consequences of our actions today therefore I am striving to get the younger generations excited and educated on the positive effects bamboo has on our environment and how they can play a direct roll by participating in our Eco-Tribe.  PEACE-Monica!
