Good bye class 8

Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010

We started with 9 interns for class 8… 3 dropped out within the first 2 weeks, then by week 10, 2 more bailed…week 11, 1 more bailed…. so we were left with 3 interns to close out the 16 week internship but decided with everything going on in preparation for 2011, it would be best to just close it down completely.  We are thankful for those interns who assisted us, even in a limited capacity.

There are many lessons to be learned, so here are a few:

  • If you leave the program, don’t lie about why you really left.  Always be honest.  The truth will always reveal itself.
  • If you get into the program and suddenly realize it’s just too much to take on, then communicate it immediately and exit quickly so it doesn’t interupt the class as a whole.
  • If you sign up for something like our internship then see it through… be persistent and don’t give up.  If you do leave, at least show some respect and turn over your activities to someone else who can finish them.
  • If you are going to be negative, then don’t become a cancer to our positive environment, just stay home
  • Every point is important, you should strive for every point… if you don’t, it’s a pure reflection on your ability to be successful
  • You either want it or you don’t, there is no inbetween!
  • Time management is everything, along with organization!

We look forward to improving our internship for class 9 starting in January.  We are now taking new applicants.  Please email molson@bamboosk8.com if you can honor our system and really want to improve your business skills.

Bring on the Cold!

Friday, November 19th, 2010

First off I am so excited because it is finally cold outside! Good-bye sunshine hello clouds!

This week has gone by so fast! I don’t know if it’s because Thanksgiving is right around the corner or if it was just a great busy week. So over the weekend we had the skate bbq which was a ton of fun. It was awesome to be there and get use to taking pictures of the skaters. This was for sure a new endeavor for me. On Sunday we had a photo shoot for bamboo buddy. I honestly think my stomach still hurts from laughing so hard. Dana might have a ton of editing to do with the how to video.

This week at the office was a lot of fun. In a few different ways I feel like I have gotten to know that guys a little bit better. I think sometimes they forget that I am a girl but that just makes it all that much funnier. It’s nice after a few weeks to feel like part of something here. I am having so much fun and learning a ton, which is just making me even more excited about getting out there and taking more photos.

Until Next time! Oh and Don’t forget to eat a ton of food this coming up week!

The weekend is here already?

Friday, November 12th, 2010

I haven’t a clue where this week went. I feel like it was just watching the Charger’s win an away game on Sunday. This week has actually been a lot of fun. Andrew set up a little mini skate park inside the warehouse so I took this as the perfect time to get some photos of him. Along with the photos of Andrew I also took some photos of Mark, which by the way getting Mark on top of a huge stack of bamboo was awesome. I tell you I see a calendar coming out of this.

This weekend is going to be crazy fun! We have the bbq tomorrow, which I am really looking forward to. I am excited to see everyone cut loose and have a little bit of fun. Then on Sunday we have a little get together for bamboo buddy. Lets just say it is going to be an eventful weekend with photographing.

Also random shout out to Andrew! It’s his birthday today!

I hope everyone has a good weekend!

You Live and You Learn

Friday, November 5th, 2010

I’m coming out on a more serious note here kids…just playin’. But seriously, life throws a ton of curve balls at us and often hands us opportunities that we don’t even see or notice most of the time. To my own surprise, I’ve learned and grown a great deal since I came into this internship. I knew it would be a challenge, but I had no idea that it would push me to actually reflect on my life and really start getting things in order. I actually left my previous job to take part in this internship. So, obviously, I saw value in it from the get go. I mainly did it out of my love for skateboarding and my curiosity in how the industry worked and if I’d even enjoy working in the industry itself. They’re also doing a very revolutionary thing here by helping the environment and making awesome decks out of bamboo. All in all, it’s been a great ride so far. We’re ten weeks in and I’ve been taking it a day at a time…cuz I don’t wanna miss a thiiiiing (a little Aerosmith for you). So far my experience has taught me to always keep my mind open, to not shut myself out from any opportunity to learn and gain experience, and to take on all projects with full force and ownership. In the end, it really is reliant upon you to make your future. So, find what you love, pursuit it, and don’t get lazy and let any chances pass you by.

Now, to make up for all that corniness, I’ll leave you with a few words from my boy

Everyone Loves Midterm Week!

Friday, November 5th, 2010

Aaaaayyyyooo!  It’s midterm week here @ BambooSK8.  You know what that means….study study study.  But you know what, work hard play hard.  Just got back from the awesome San Francisco to celebrate my favorite holiday of all time….HALLOWEEN!  I was tiger and it was AMAZING!  Not to mention I was in San Francisco as the GIANTS dominated the World Series and took home the big WIN!  It was epic, that’s for sure.

On to the more important stuf, the BambooSK8 Tour!  We got rained out at Coronado last Saturday so we had to turn the truck around, but we will be abck again for another try.  The Skate Tour isn’t making any stops this weekend due to scheduling issues, but we are hitting Encinitas on Thursday, November 11th for the Single Day Skate Day so definitely come out and help us remember our Veterans that fought hard for our country.  The BambooSK8 Team is going to get together next weekend to BBQ it up!  We have a few more stops before we wrap our invasion into the skate world so keep an eye out and we will keep you posted!

Summer in November

Thursday, November 4th, 2010

I swear to you it is always an adventure here. I am at the end of my third week and I probably have enough stories to start writing a book.  I have been without the other girls this week so I am basically hanging out with the guys. I tend to call it a brofest, which I don’t think all of them are happy about. Someone please give me a dress and high heels soon or else I might start talking like the guys.

We had a fun photo shoot this week. Mark was awesome and got some people to come in for me so that I could photograph them in the t-shirts and with some of the skateboards. On what I feel like was the hottest day of the week I took Dan and Tyler to one of the local skate parks to get some new images. How both the guys were able to fit in my car and be semi comfortable I will never know. I was also able to con Mark and Andrew to get in on the photo shoot that we were having in the warehouse. It’s amazing how fast three hours go by when you are laughing and taking photos.

I hope everyone has a great weekend! If you have not made it to the beach yet, you need to. I was down there at nine this morning and it was gorgeous!

Holy Heat Wave!

Thursday, November 4th, 2010

This week has gone by so quickly, it’ been such a blur! Not to mention very very hot.  But after some rain and cool weather, i must say I am very glad to have it back and i have every intention to make it to the beach while the weather lasts.  So the internship was a difficult week, we had a midterm that was a little bit difficult for some of us, but we’re getting past it.  Also, we went through our commitments last week and had a big/ huge/ great discussion for where we should all be, and i think it really kicked some of us into gear.  Unfortunately, our event had to be cancelled on Saturday due to rain :( But we are hoping to reschedule and get back on the skatepark tour.  I hope everyone had a happy happy halloween, welcome to november! (how did we get here so fast??)

On another note, on tuesday, the world was hit hard with the devastating news of Andy Irons’ untimely death.  The surfing community continues to mourn the tragic loss.  I am still in disbelief.  Andy Irons, you were a great surfer, and an inspiration…. My thoughts and prayers are with you, your family, friends and your fans during this difficult time.  RIP AI.
