well, in the beginning four months seemed like an eternity. However, the time has gone by so fast. I have truely enjoyed all my experiences in the last few months. Building the quarterpipe, chilling in the cave, and all the events we were involved will always be remembered. I would like to give a shout out to Mark, Andrew, and Wyatt for always making the daily grind not such a grind, You never knew what the day had in store for you at the office, it was awesome. Anyway, the experience at Bamboosk8 was amazing and I thank everyone in my class and everyone at Bamboosk8 for making the experience awesome

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010Wow man, this is already over, I can’t believe it. Summer flew by! But, this internship here has been a great time. I have learned an awful lot about the industry and made a lot of good friends.
We’ve got Dan who never drinks and never likes to party…, Jessica with her “Where is my smoothie” attitude, Jen the girl who bejeweled her skateboard(first time I’ve ever seen that and hopefully the last), Stephen and his awesome thought process when you get Rockstar gum in him, Nick with his “Rockstar” life, Dana and her Michiganness…, Alex with his cigarettes and capris, and even that one guy from Germany grew on me ha ha. A whole lot of characters made for a lot of good memories! I will miss all of them.
BambooSK8 has taught me a lot of good lessons that I needed to learn. I will forever ride bamboo! Hopefully our intern class paves the way for awesome things to come from the next classes.
Peace,
Brian
Final week… : (
Tuesday, August 24th, 2010Six teen weeks came and went, and they went fast! It’s crazy to think back because at the beginning of this experience I thought I knew things, but really I didn’t know at all. I’ve learned a lot about myself from being here at Bamboosk8. I’ve learned that being accountable and dependable is a major characteristic you need to possess when being part of a team atmosphere and running a successful business. I’ve learned the importance of accounting and financials from our exercises, which are essential for future planning and maintaining of an organization. I’ve learned that if I wanted to start my own business, I can, it is possible. Anything is possible, it’s just takes some time, effort, and determination. I have learned that the skateboarding industry is way more complex than I had originally thought, but also way cooler than I had originally imagined. If anything, this experience has made me want to be a part of it even more. For others looking into this internship experience, I would say definitely do it. The people you will meet and the things you will learn will be invaluable. You will leave with a sense of self satisfaction and a new confidence you never knew you had. Additionally, you will have a blast and partake in so many new and exciting things. For example, we interns put on the Octobomb Launch Party (pics are down below). This was really cool because none of us had actually planned an event, so it was a learning experience for sure, but a great one. It was stressful at times, but fun and we knocked it out of the park. We had bands, food, raffles, prizes, and more. I loved it and wished we could have done more of these. I also attended the Maloof Money Cup which was rad. Sold decks and went around representing and promoting Bmaboosk8. It was cool, and there was some great skating to watch. It was definitely a highlight of the experience. Oh and the OB street fair. Great time! (also the out of work stuff!) So with that I will bid you a due and say thank you to everyone at Bamboosk8. You guys have welcomed me in, taught me, and shown me stuff I was waiting and wanting to be a part of. Thank you to all the other interns who put in the time and effort. We had some good times and I know I have made some relationships that will last beyond the infamous Cave. I don’t exactly know what’s next for me, but I am optimistic and confident that I will find something I love and enjoy. To the new class of interns, good luck! Don’t drink too much of the keg at work, and see you around!

Tuesday, August 17th, 2010Hey Guys,
Just though I’d give you a few ASR Pics. For your viewing pleasure.
The Land of the Kiwis
Monday, August 16th, 2010Hey folks,
Well I just got back from a week and a half vacation to New Zealand. It was awesome, that country is amazing. I didn’t get to snowboard or skate while I was there, but I did get to bungee jump and go zorbing. Those of you who don’t know what zorbing is, its where they stick you in this big plastic ball type thing and roll you down a hill…needless to say it blew my mind.
Also while i was there I got to go to some skate shops. Let me tell you, I was grateful to live in America when I saw the prices of their skateboards and snowboards. A Zoo York deck, not even a pro model, was around $85. A Forum snowboard with crappy bindings, was $1,000. A Nixon t-shirt was $60. So, I just felt bad for all the kids our there who can’t do those things because it’s too damn expensive!
But, other than that it was amazing. The native culture was awesome, they cooked us a full meal that had been cooked in a local hot spring. We went caving in the middle of nowhere and saw glow worms. We took a ride on a jet boat that went 60 mph while doing a 360 about 30 feet from a waterfall. But, I am also glad to be back to normal life. Surfing, skating and relaxing on the beach. Especially glad that the 12 hour flight is over with! It took me a while to get over that, especially with roomates who play karaoke at every single chance that they get, I’m not bitter or anything…
Well, thats about all I have to say. Can’t believe the summer and the internship is almost over! I don’t want to leave.
Peace
Those who wear Tin Foil hats should not play in Thunderstorms!!
Saturday, August 14th, 2010So all the interns have been busy with all these great events going on over the last couple of weeks and from what I hear they did a great job! Me, on the other hand, instead of battling large crowds at the Maloof Money Cup I was battling Mother Nature. This past weekend I once again returned home to Michigan for a much anticipated camping trip with my family and their friends from high school that I grew up with. This is a camping trip that we’ve done the same weekend for the last 20 years and this year I took on the role of planning the activities. And it turned out fantastic. I planned out and organized our ‘Camping Olympics’ which involved everyone splitting up into teams and competing against one another in Corn Hole, Ladder Ball, a putting contest and then they proceeded to play Yatzee or Spoons. Which if you have never played Spoons I suggest you make sure you have health insurance beforehand because it gets intense. I’m not going to lie, I was caught a few times jumping and screaming bloody murder across the picnic table in search for the last spoon.
Then after dinner the teams also competed in a Jiffy-Pop Pop-Off and then Camping Taboo which I had created that incorporated all the themes, activities, places, adventures or things having to do with our camping trips of the last 20 years. With some assistance of my mother we came up with the fantastic theme of ‘Foiled again!’ This means that on Saturday night (when we do our big group dinner with all 40 of us!!) everyone had to cook their food in tin foil. But to make things more entertaining and slightly ridiculous, everyone was required to make an accessory of tin foil and wear it to dinner! It was fantastic to see everyone’s creativity and geeky side come out in full swing! Here are just a few pictures for your viewing pleasure.
So as we are sitting there in all of our tin foil glory, my dad proceeds to inform us all of this monstrous storm that is cross Wisconsin and should be reaching us within a few hours. So imagine if you will 40 people sitting in the middle of the woods covered in tin foil with a severe thunderstorm on the horizon. In any normal situation, you would think that these people might get up, seek shelter and remove the tin foil from the tops of their heads… nope. We finish dinner, refill our adult beverages and gather our chairs around the bonfire to continue with the festivities… a Jiffy-Pop Pop-Off!! Which sadly enough I did not capture on video but it was hilarious. There was jumping, dancing, singing, and lots of shaking done in, around, and over the fire. While comical, I do believe that we had mistakenly preformed a native Indian rain dance and brought on the rain sooner than expected. But the rain did not stop us, once it let up a little and we made sure our fire was still blazin’ we returned to the fire for round two of the contest only to be rained out again. And again you would think that after a second time being caught in the rain that any normal person might just simply retire to their camper or tent if you are a real camper seeing as how it was already approaching midnight. (Sidenote: for those of you that no me or my family, we have never made any claims to being normal or anywhere near it.) So we return to the fire for a third and then forth time to finally view clear skies till about 3:30 am, when either the early morning hours or the adult beverages have taken everyone captive. Luckily just in time, for nearly an hour later the mother of all storms comes rolling through! Don’t get me wrong, I love me a good thunderstorm and miss them seeing as though San Diego does not see much of them, but I do not suggest enjoying or watching a storm from inside a very small tent, with very thin walls, and very low to the ground! Let’s just say that Dana did not get much sleep that night for fear of floating away from the monsoon that seemed to happening out doors or the deafening thunder that made the ground feel as though we had pitched our tent on the rail road tracks with a high speed train barreling down it, never mind the lightning that light up the campground to intensely and frequently that I seriously contemplated putting my sunglasses on so I might be able to go back to sleep! After about an hour I was finally able to go back to bed and get a couple more hours of sleep before we had to pack everything up, which was still soaking wet. But I wouldn’t have changed a single moment! I miss Michigan and the amazing light flickering, wall shaking, tent flooding thunderstorms that happen only in Northern Michigan. I love camping!!
Us open/Maloof cup
Friday, August 13th, 2010Hey mates,
How you guys handling those really busy 2 weeks of events? Still alive for the last and biggest one, the ASR?
I hope you had the opportunity to see live the surf contest at HB, it was wicked! Mark, Andrew Uno, Andrew Dos and I were there, we saw randomly Mike Fanning on the street, saw Reynold trying some sick air, Machado full of style as usual.. The day continued with Weezer’s gig and we ended up at a random patio waiting for Uno.
Next day, straight to Maloof, enjoyed the skating vibe. Now guys be ready for the ASR, hope to see you there!

Two Weeks of Madness, I Love It
Wednesday, August 11th, 2010The last few weeks have been crazy around here. After the success of our Octabomb Launch Party we looked ahead to probably the busiest two weeks in the skateboard industry, especially in southern California. The US Open of Surfing, The X Games, The Maloof Money Cup, and ASR all take place in these two weeks. The X Games is always a huge event that takes over Los Angeles every year. This year they created an awesome park course and street course for all the skaters and BMX riders to rip up. There were some sick lines thrown down and one BMX rider even decided to air out of the street course, it was crazy. The US Open of Surfing took over the Beach at Huntington in it’s usual fashion. There were vendors tents, a massive park course, a huge skateboard bowl, and of course all the waves for the surfers. We were there for a few days passing out flyers and checking out the action, as well as the amazing concerts that are put on. The Maloof Money Cup was like nothing I have ever seen before. The course for the street skaters was sick and featured obstacles taken from various famous skate spots around southern California. Then just behind it was a very unique halfpipe as well as the Mini Mega Ramp. There were a million kids running around gathering up all the free swag they could, and Bamboosk8 held it down in the Kicker booth to inform people about our products and of course set them up with anything they needed to shred. This weekend is the ASR trade show in San Diego and you better believe that Bamboosk8 will be in the house representing. Also look for our very own warehouse manager Andrew to be shredding it up in the Shop Boys Contest, good luck man.
Maloof $ Cup!!!
Tuesday, August 10th, 2010This past week was amazing at the Maloof Cup representing and holding down the fort for BambooSk8! I made so many new friends and I hope all the new owners of BambooSk8 boards enjoy and reep the benefits of our decks. I luv all the kids that came and hung out with me at the booth and taught me how to do some tricks while showing off their skillz. And I definitely want to thank all the Kicker Guys for sharing their booth with us and keeping it entertaining, good times. Oh and we musn’t forget the moment when Jess and I got in trouble for sk8ing …lol ….Anyways here is my shout out I promised to all my new friends and the BambooSk8 fans….
why hello again
Monday, August 9th, 2010So….
Week 14 already and I’m not ready to leave! Seems like we just started this program and its almost finished. Anyway, I attended the Maloof Money Cup for a bit yesterday. Wanted to stay for the finals but of course I had to go to work. I did manage to grab a few pictures though before I had to leave. I do have to say, the Orange County fair is sick and way better than Del Mar. I had to record the finals so I didn’t get to watch until late last night but there was some awesome skating going down yesterday. Congratulations to Chris Cole for killing it and taking first prize.
Anyway its Monday here in the cave and I’m all by my lonesome typing away with my coffee in hand. This week is going to be another busy one. We interns have a lot to get finished and we have to prepare and promote for ASR. We’ve got the philosophy, charter, MPS, one on ones, ASR, the blog and more. Check one on the blog. Time for me to get this all done. Hope you like the photos and talk to you soon.

daily update:
Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010who would have guessed, today is a busy @ the bamboo HQ
beside dealing with our main tasks ( like me for instance: Europe) we are preparing for the Weekend, which entirely booked out with all the skate events: Maloof money Cup and the Us Open
they are going to be great, that’s for sure, although I won’t be around. But 4 days off and visiting my friends in San Francisco sounds good to me as well. Then we have two times the Warped Tour in our schedule for next week. Thanks very much guys for taking me to the one in San Diego, you make a childhood dream come true
We also faced a new girlie board design line today, created by Jen, I named the edition “Sissy 29″( check the pictures, maybe Girl skateboards should reconsider their designs
We are also considering a cooperation with Svarowski for this particular product line. The lead slogan might be the AndrewG quote: “Go Pink, or go home”
- Sissy 29 bottom
- Sissy 29 Top
last but not least, during all this being- busy- mentality which rules our day, we had time for the more important things in life, like for instance….
Jess
or her birthday to be more precisely:
happy birthday little lady
Partying with the Pope!
Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010So this week we sadly enough had to say goodbye to our favorite blonde BambooSk8 buddy and mascot, Pope!! Pope was from the last intern class and one of my favorites! So Wednesday we all got together to give him a proper sending off… needless to say we all stayed up way past our bedtimes and were less than chipper in the morning but it was worth it.
Here is some pictures of Pope and his favorite ladies and his boys!!!
As I’ve sure you’ve already read but Jessee, Brian and I got to go enjoy the X-games with Mark, Andrew, and Geoff. Jessee already went into great detail about it so if you would like to hear more I suggest you wait 20 minutes and read her blog again. Otherwise hang in there, I’m working on creating a video of my favorite clips from the event. But it’s taking a little longer than expected since my computer hates me and I am still looking for the that perfect song for my video stars to rockout too. So stay tuned for those fun filled adventures!
Peace, Love & Coco Puffs
