The Future of Surfing

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

October 17th was the Future of Surfing Event put on by Rerip in Solana Beach.  It was a gathering of eco-friendly companies to support the recycling and exchanging of old surfboards.  OB Surf and Skate and BambooSk8 put on the skate demo during the day giving the attendees some entertainment.  All in all it was a fun event that gave us a great presence among the green community. Here’s some photos from the event courtesy of Brian Keathley and Nathan Peacher:

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

Whats happenin people for the past two weeks i have been focusing on the developing of our t-shirts and soft goods department and its coming along slowly but with the rest of the interns working together we hope to get some designs out in the near future. Just got to visualize that day when you walk into your local skate shop and see the latest t-shirt from bamboosk8 on display its what motivates me.

A trip to the Mammoth skatepark

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

I recently was in Mammoth and had a chance to stop by the Volcom Brothers Skatepark on my way out of town.  It was six o’ clock in the morning and about 36 degrees outside so it wasn’t exactly ideal skating conditions. Just rolling into the main part of the park towards the capsule is enough to get your heart thumping and your eyes watering.  It’s better than any cup of coffee I have ever had.

This park is a reflection of the big things that are possible when the skateboard and snowboard communities come together.

What’s happening

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

Just wanted to keep everyone up to speed. This first month as an intern for Bamboosk8 has been a great experience and things are moving quickly. I have been working on various projects to get Bamboosk8 where it needs to be. Balancing various projects at the same time has been challenge and a learning experience.

I have been working on creating partnerships with other eco-friendly companies for future events and promotions.  I can’t really talk about the details but keep your eyes and ears open. The word of bamboo skateboards is spreading in a rapid way thanks to our interns.  Everyone is starting to realize the benefits of bamboo skateboards as opposed to maple.  One day when bamboo replaces maple we will all be able to breathe a little easier.

The last couple days we received a new shipment of our hybrid bamboo decks and wow do they look amazing. After years of testing and feedback, these are truly a reflection of perfection. These decks are flying like hotcakes so any of you shop owners out there or loop’d kids better get on it if you want to skate some fresh bamboo. Those of you who have already ordered your decks please feel free to send us some feedback.   It has been a great experience so far and I look forward to bigger and better things in the future.

Til next time.

manual pad

These past couple of weeks were pretty busy for us, conducting market research, mailing out boards to sponsee’s from our new shipment and building things. Andrew G and I took some initiative and built the first addition to the warehouse skate obstacle arsenal and it turned out nice! we just put a couple of pallettes together that were similar in size and then jerry rig braced them together. At lowes we shopped for a desireable peice of plywood for the top surface but as soon as we got there someone told us that their saw was broken and that we were out of luck. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise because I walked out frustrated and found the optimal peice of plywood for us sitting in a pile of scrapwood in front of the store. Not about to accept defeat we grabbed the plank and headed to Home Depot where a guy cut if for us for free and it was on.  Plus I got a fresh complete on a hybrid bamboo deck.

Let the training  begin…
