2009 Vans Downtown Showdown

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

The 5th annual Vans Downtown Showdown was once again held in the Paramount Studio lots in Hollywood over the weekend.  This event brings out some of the best street skaters in the world to test their abilities on custom features designed by certain companies.  This year was no exception when it came to creativity in features which showcased the talent of different skaters.  The features were Girl’s Little China Banks, Flip’s Extremely Sorry Ashtray Pyramid, Creature’s Hesh Cross, and Black Label’s Drunk Tank and Twelve Step Program.  Although everyone was killing it, Jani Laitiala took top pro performance while the overall team winner went to Foundation.  Until next year….

BambooSk8 Intern goes to Europe

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

Hello everyone! So I just got back from an exciting adventure in Europe. I went to Amsterdam and London.  I brought my BambooSk8 shirt and some stickers and spread the word of BambooSk8. I had an amazing time with the people I met in Amsterdam and London. A lot of people were very interested in BambooSk8. Hopefully soon we will see BambooSk8 across the globe!!! Stay tuned, I will be posting some pics from the trip and you will be able to see how BambooSk8 visited the canals and the Heineken Experience in Amsterdam as well as Stonehenge and Big Ben in London.

Hello again…..

Saturday, September 26th, 2009

Just wanted to keep everyone up to date with what has been going on here at BambooSK8.  During the second week of the internship all the interns attended ASR which was a great experience for all.  You can read all about it in my last post. It was something I will never forget and I hope to attend it again in the future as my career in the action sports industry continues to grow.

One of the main objectives of this internship is to spread the word of BambooSK8 and create awarness for future generations to come.  I can’t say enough good things about this company and the internship program.  Bamboo skateboards are the wave of the future and have proven to be superior to its counterpart maple.  Tested and proven in the Sole Tech labs to have more POP than maple!!!  What more do you want in a skateboard than a durable product thats got POP?

We want to thank all you kids out there on loop’d network that are buying our decks and supporting us.  Keep on sending us those photos for the weekly photo contest and keep on rippin’.  Whether your buying our decks directly from us or in your local skate shop, you are starting to see the light and supporting a good cause.  One day when all those maple trees are gone what will you turn to?

This is a great company and a wonderful opportunity that I am proud to be a part of.  Until next time….

Hot Dawgs and Handrails

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

This past weekend hosted the annual Hot Dawgs and Handrails up in Big Bear, CA.  Every September snowboarders from around the world come to compete and party.  It’s quite easily my favorite event of the year because you get to hangout with pretty much everyone you’ve ever snowboarded with along with meeting new people at the same time.  Every year is amazing, and this year was no exception.  The following photos are courtesy of Snowboard Revolution:

ASR

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

Well I was glad to be a part of ASR this year instead of just being a spectator.  It was a great experience hanging out with the Bamboo crew and promoting the brand.  I was able to meet a lot of new people during these few days and hopefully made an influence on them.  Although ASR was mainly about doing business, we did have our fair share of fun too.  We attending video premieres, skate contests, and much more.  Here’s a link to a photo that made it onto surfshots website: http://www.surfshot.com/Surf%20Events/Photos/ASR+September+2009+Tradeshow+Pictures+The+Girls+The+Booths+and+few+Dudes-175301.html

Another Monay

Monday, September 21st, 2009

Monday always seems to be a good day for healing. I skated all day on saturday on my new bamboo deck. After I skated I went to see Guttermouth. It was so much fun. I’m so sore today though. I don’t even want to move. A good sign from another great weekend.

The ASR Experience

Friday, September 18th, 2009

The ASR experience was something I will never forget.  I have been to the show before but this was the first show where I felt like I actually belonged and served a purpose. Other times I had been there under some other alias, or at the job fair, but it was never this productive.  The first day was spent spreading the word of Bamboo as an alternative and superior product to maple.  Kids and other buyers that stopped by the booth were well aware of who we were and seemed very interested in our skate decks.  I spent a lot of time networking and talking to kids about our products.  It was really special to see that kids were well aware of our products and why purchasing our decks, as compared to maple, directly effected the environment.  To hear a kid tell me “bamboo grows three feet a day and has more pop than maple”, that was something else.  Its just a great feeling to know that part of our younger generation is aware of sustainability and its importance for generations to come.  By the end of the first day our company was lucky enough to land a spot on Fox News San Diego and I went home and watched it that night on the 10 o’ clock news.  It was a great story about how companies in the Action Sports Industry are going green and using environmentally-friendly products.  It set the stage for the days to come and created a buzz about BambooSK8 around ASR.  BambooSK8 is one of those companies at the forefront and I am proud to be a part of that.

There was plenty of entertainment and eye-candy throughout the weekend.  One of the highlights of the event was probably the Volcom skate ramp.  It was fun watching groms destroy it and old school skaters trying to hang.  One kid that definitely stuck out was Little Louie Lopez.  Its hard to keep up with the skate scene these days with all these young guns coming up.  The trick that stuck in my mind was a gap to frontside krooks down and across a good portion of the ramp.  Freakin’ Groms!  One other highlight was the first ever Office Boyz skate contest.  Its a contest put on by Malakye that involves desk jockey’s and employees from around the Actions Sports Industry.  You would be surprised at the level of skating by the people who sit behind a computer all day and  work in this industry.  Do they really work all day? I think they are taking way too many skate breaks.

Overall ASR was a great experience and our team of interns did a great job.  People were even asking for our decks when we were loading up the truck in the parking lot.  I would say it was a success for BambooSK8. Way to go team!

Peace out.

ASR and other random anecdotes…

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

ASR was like a tornado blew around the world and deposited the leading action sports brands in one city at the same time it was like one of those dreams that you get mad at yourself after waking up from it. Walking around i was surprised over and over again how people who did not even skate were interested in what we were doing because of that it was important to have working knowledge of the products we were promoting. It was a great learning experience and i cant wait till the next one and maybe next time the security guards will let me into class@asr because i couldnt smooth talk them into letting me by. And on a random note its been discovered im the best box maker out of the interns if there was an olympic event for it i would have been the michael phelps for it hahaha. H.E.R.O.

Whats up everyone this is Mark S, most people just cal l me Schwan. I’ve been an intern here at good ol’ bamboosk8 for about four weeks and everyday I’m learning new things and getting excited about future projects. I’ve been attending Palomar College for a couple years mixing gen. ed. and graphic design classes and I’m hyped to be in a real world environment applying real world skills. Also I’ve been a cook now for about 5 years…can you eat bamboo? I found out about bamboo skateboards from a friend, and actually worked in the warehouse before I became an intern. I grew up surfing and still surf but skateboarding has become my new crush and is definately at the top of my list of extra curricular activities. Love the bamboo decks; I’ve ridden the 5-ply 70% and the 4 ply 100% and they got POP! haha. It’s amazing how there is always room for inovation and improvement, especially when you combine that with eco friendly morals.

LiV well…

ride grass…..PEACE!

weekend at ASR

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

ASR was crazy as always and I was glad to see they expanded on the free skate area outside of the mini ramp. I was definately a walking bilboard for bamboosk8 and lots of people noticed that I think. We sold lots of boards and I was able to talk with alot of people I never thought I would see inside and at the after partys. For example I shared conversations over long island ice tea’s with Christopher Campbell (the president of photon skateboards) at the ASR after party in the woodstock rooftop pool at the Hardrock. And of course the reef girls were there…yay! Overall I think it was beneficial for us to have a booth there, especially being a part the ASEC greenroom corner.

Does anybody know what was up with the booth that was selling Ron Burgundy sunscreen..?

An exciting weekend at ASR

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

Hello evryone!!!! So this past weekend BambooSk8 attended ASR at the San Diego Convention Center.  I was very fortunate to be able to attend with the rest of the BambooSk8 team. This was my very first time attending ASR.  This was one of the best experiences of my life!!! I had a blast walking around and seeing all of the different booths and  being able to meet new and interesting people from the action sports industry.  I was able to speak with consumers of our product as well as people from different companies in the industry. It was nice to be able to converse with people from all different types of action sports companies.  I was exhausted by the end of the weekend but it was well worth it!!!! BambooSk8 had a very successful weekend at ASR!!! I am very excited about the progress we made at the event and I cannot wait till next ASR!!! Now I am off to Europe and hopefully I will be promoting the BambooSk8 name in Amsterdam and London!!! Watch out Europe, here comes BamboSk8!!!!

One crazy weekend

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

My weekend started with ASR. It was my first time there and I was stoked. It was the most I have ever felt that I was actually part of the action sports industry, and man did it feel at home. I was runnig arond like a chicken with my head cut off checking out all the cool booths that were around. There ws so uch to see I was never in one place too long, and oh man the mini ramp they had, SICK! Volcom built it, there were like three diffrent sections on it, all a diffrent size with volcom stones connecting them.
I was tagged from head to toe in the Bamboo Sk8 logo. I was talking up bamboo with everyone I met. I eventually made it around to brands. I gave them my pitch, we talked for a bit. No matter what they said I stayed around and picked their brain as much as I could, to get insider information on the industry. The former owner of Vision (the second oldest skateboard company) gave me a full on lecture of the industry and answered all of the questions I had.
We ended up selling plenty of decks, both long and short. It was definitley worth our time there.
On Sunday I attended the paddle for clean water in Ocean Beach, put on by the Surfrider Foundation. The surf was lke 8 foot so the paddle got cancelled (I’m not going to lie, I was hoping it would so I didn’t feel guilty about surfing instead of doing the paddle). Sarting at 11 a there was a free concert with Iration headlining, and tribal Seeds playing too. Also Stone was there giving out free beer (hell yeah!) That whole event got attacked with Bamboo Sk8 stickers. Everyone there got a sticker, and if they didn’t they heard about bamboo, that’s or sure.

Breathe easy, Skate Bamboo

THE ZINE IS DONE

Friday, September 4th, 2009

Afeter redoing the zine multiple times, it is finally done. Everyone who sent in an ad to our contest on loopd can see their ad placed on the back page of the zine. That is right all 74 Bamboo Sk8 ads are on the back of the zine. Make sure you check it out if you participated in the contest.
On a side note. This week officially makes it the half way mark of my internship. For those people looking for an internship I highly recommend this program. I have lerned a lot and enjoyed every minute of my time here at Bamboo Sk8.

First day

Thursday, September 3rd, 2009

First day was crazy like padded room occupant crazy they threw alot of information at me and at first your head is swimming but it gets cleared because everyone was real willing to help out  they were not joking when they said its like a family here. Right now im just learning how BambooSk8 operates, the correct way to contact different business and individual entities, and most importantly the goals and mission of this company. I know that this internship has me on the right track in terms of future goals such as owning my own apparel company hopefully that happens before BambooSk8 corners the market haha

Along came a Peach……..er

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

My name is Nathan Peacher. I bring to the table a B.S. in Advertising from Northern Arizona University with a Graphic Design and Web Development background. I am currently pursuing a web publishing certificate from UCSD.  One day I hope to be part of a creative team for the action sports industry.  Growing up in Laguna Niguel and Orange County, the mecca for the industry, I am a life-long consumer of all the big name brands.  I was fortunate enough to grow up in an area where I was always at the beach, skateboarding, or snowboarding.  I love all outdoor activities and have lots of hobbies including photography and painting.  I pursued my passion for snowboarding by living and working in Lake Tahoe for six years. I have maintained a consistent amount of freelance work and recently moved back to Southern California to pursue a career in Web Development.  I am very excited to work with a company like BambooSK8 who is revolutionizing the sport of skateboarding. My life long passion for board sports will prove to be invaluable during my internship with BambooSK8. It is a great opportunity to work with a company that is involved in changing the world for future generations to come.
