Contest in the Works
Friday, August 28th, 2009grand prizeTime to get stoked. I am proud to announce a new contest in the works here at Bamboo Sk8. The contest involves shooting an Eco/Skate video. The video is a chance for contestants to get creative. I have been working closley with Ron (head of public relations), and we so far have finished an outline for a “pilot” run. The pilot run will include all the basic ideas of the contest for four teams of participants to compete against eachother. We will pick the best video for a grand prize (later to be announced, but trust us it will be worth competing for). If the pilot contest runs with out any major problems we will unleash the contest to the masses. We see this contest eventually going national, maybe even international. We also have diffrent variations of the contest, one will revolutionalize the skate market. We are changing the world one step at a time. There is no stopping us and eventually you will have no choice but to join us. Why not join us now. Go ahead, help us save the world. I dare you.

Hey everyone I know it’s been a while since I’ve made a post so I’m here to update you guys on what’s going on. Inside the office I’ve been doing everything from finding and calling new shops to potentially carry our products, working on a deep cleaning product, answering e-mails, helping out with labels, helping with loop’d, and helping edit the new zine that Phillip has created. Today I’ve been busy reogranizing the warehouse and I’m about to clean out the kegerator. Outside the office I’ve been surfing a bunch, visiting local skateparks to promote BambooSk8, and hangingout with some of the other interns. Here’s some pics from a recent mini ramp sesh on the bamboo decks:
X-Game-in-it
Tuesday, August 11th, 2009The X-Games were sick this year. Lots of sweet one footed skate nollie nose grabs. The Staples Center smelled like gas from all the dirt bikes that were going brrrrrrrrr!!!!! When it came time for the big air comp I was ready. We had great seats, and as Bob Burnquist flew through the air I was sure he would hit his head on the score board thingy……so close. It was a great time and fun was had by all. BambooSk8 will always be at the best skate events and look for our Zine dropping knowlege on the internet and your local BambooSk8 dealer.
X-Games!!!!!!
Monday, August 10th, 2009The X-Games was AWE-SOME!! I had a blast. We went to the big air contest and we sat all the way at the top which wasn’t really bad at all cause we got a great view of everything. We were also sitting 3 rows away from the drop in and that was awesome to watch the skaters so close up and see them drop. It was an over all great atmosphere to be in and I will say it is definitely an experience for the books!
Intro!
Monday, August 10th, 2009Hey just want to introduce myself, my name is Marina Baham I’m a new intern here at BambooSK8. I just graduated from Saint Mary’s College of California with a BA in Sports Management. I have been at the internship for a couple weeks now and I love it! I have enjoyed skateboard since I was about 8 years old and I have just recently become more fascinated with surfing. I am interested to start my career in the Action Sport Industry and I am even more excited that I am at BambooSk8 getting some experience!
Lately I have been getting to know more about how the company works and what us interns do to help contribute. I have just started working on the Loopd website and getting to know the people we sponsor and how to reach out to others and bring them on our team! I am excited to take on more and learn more, so I will let you know how it goes!
Zine!!!!!!
Friday, August 7th, 2009The Zine is almost done. You will get one with each purchase from the website. Included on the back page is all of the ads that were submited from the ad contest we held on loopd. Make sure to check it out.
Some intern updates
Friday, August 7th, 2009As of August 2009, we are pleased to have hired Mark Olson, one of our interns who has spent almost 9 months of interning and then leading the intern class. By being persistent, learning from his mistakes, being positive, getting results, and a few other quality traits, Mark earned himself a spot when the opportunity arose. Timing + opportunity + hard work is what paid off. Despite the fact that we had over 50 resumes for the position, hiring internally is what made sense for us, and all the more reason why we do the internship program; to grow talent. As our company grows, we hope to continue this tradition.
Another former intern from class 3, Greg, is now working for us heading up our longboard business. We expect great things from Greg!!
Also, yesterday, we had lunch with a former intern Kenny from the first internship. Kenny is now helping our old friend Donald at Dark Horse Distribution (Grind King, Termite, Dogtown) with operations, as well as venturing into some new technological things.
Our former intern Krystie who was hired at Fox after our internship is kicking butt over there, and still finding time to help us with various graphical items. We can’t say enough good things about her!!
Once the market picks back up, we are hoping to see more of our interns find jobs within the industry. At the same time, some interns find that action sports just isn’t for them… or that they thought they wanted to do sales, but realize they dont… it’s all a part of the process of self growth.
